Haven, Duke/Nathan or Duke/Nathan/Audrey, rainy day

Duke looked up as the first fat drops hit him on the head. “Are you serious?” he demanded of the sky. He hadn’t taken his boat out that morning because it was too conspicuous. The boat he had… liberated for his run didn’t have the same cover that his boasted over the wheelhouse and as the sky opened up above him; Duke cursed.

By the time Duke got back to the docks, he was soaked to the skin and then some. As he guided the boat back into its slip, he tossed his hair out of his eyes. He wished he was on his own boat where he would have been under cover and had some dry clothes and a towel. Now he’d have to wait until he got ashore. It wasn’t worth going halfway down the docks to get to his boat when he’d have to go back up to get to his Land Rover and head for the Gull.

Throwing the ropes over the side, he hopped off the boat and quickly tied it up. As he headed up the concrete walkway towards the parking lot, he ran a hand through his hair, using the water to slick it back. He really just wanted to head back to the Gull and change out of his wet clothes, maybe take a hot shower, and crawl into bed for an hour or the rest of the night.

When he opened the door to the Land Rover, he noticed his cell phone was blinking with a message. Sighing because it could only be one person, he dialed his voicemail. Duke?, the voice he expected said. Don’t go to the Gull. Nathan and I are waiting at his house. Come up and dry off. A click signaled that Audrey had hung up without saying good-bye.

“Maybe I don’t want to go to Nathan’s house,” Duke grumbled as he put the truck into gear. “Maybe I just want to go home.”

Still he found himself taking the turns that would eventually land him at Nathan’s house.

Audrey opened the door when he knocked. “Duke, why did you…” she started and then got a good look at him. “You’re soaked!” She hustled him inside, calling for Nathan.

The former police chief appeared in the entrance to the hallway, questioning, “What’s going on?”

“Duke apparently decided to go for a swim in the rain,” Audrey declared as she pulled at the smuggler’s clothes, trying to figure out how to get him out of his clothes.

“I didn’t go for a swim,” Duke complained. “It’s pouring out.”

“Get your clothes off,” Audrey told him. “Nathan, get him some towels.”

By the time Nathan returned with the towels, Audrey had succeeded in getting Duke mostly stripped, although the smuggler was still complaining. “There was NO rain in the forecast,” Duke bitched as Nathan dropped a towel over his head and began to roughly dry his hair.

“Haven,” Nathan pointed out, his tone still managing to sound fond despite everything.
