Collections

What do I collect? That’s a tough question. Because I collect or save a variety of things. And I’ve been trying to cut down on what I hold onto lately.

I guess I’ll give you my top four. Or well top five. And mind you that I’m not really collecting anything right now because I’m poor and have no money.

1. Porcelain dolls
      a. I don’t really collect these anymore and I’m actually looking at weeding out most of my collection, but when I was about six, I got my first doll and thereafter I got at least one every year for my birthday and Christmas until I was about fifteen or so. And these weren’t just dolls. I got fancy dress dolls, historical dolls, a baseball player one year. I mean these were some pretty fantastical dolls. I’ve probably got between fifty and a hundred of them. The first one I got was an actual “baby” doll. And I honestly don’t remember what the last one was.

2. Button pins
     a. No not buttons. Button pins. You know the ones the kids used to wear all over their jean jackets in the 80s with the funky sayings? Yeah. Those buttons. I have. Honestly I have no idea how many I have. I have a metal box that is a good foot wide by foot long by quite possibly a half a foot to a foot deep and it’s almost full. And I couldn’t even begin to tell you what all I have. I know I have a Kennedy for President one. And a bunch of Batman ones (I know I betray my Marvel roots there but they never seem to have awesome Marvel ones—maybe they will now). And I have a bunch from Texas. And some Irish ones and a couple of Boondock Saints ones and I don’t even know. So yeah Buttons.

3. Comic books
     a. I mostly collected in my teens although I started up again recently but then had to stop again when I didn’t have money. Mostly Marvel and Dark Horse. Although I had some DC in there. And a few independent printing. I even have the book that my comic shop is featured in! And recently I found my very first graphic novel that was a Smurf one. It’s seen better days, but I still found it.

4. Baseball cards
     a. I was a major baseball fan when I was a kid (especially the Yankees) and I got addicted to baseball cards. I’ve got a lot. A lot of generic cards but I’ll figure out what to do with them eventually.

5. Books
     a. I am a bibliophile. I love books. Reading them, smelling them, holding them, touching them, browsing through a bookstore or library. So yes I collect books. Lots and lots of books. Way more than I need and I am getting rid of some of them. :-( because I have entirely too many.

So that’s what I collect. A little bit of everything. And a whole lot of stuff.
