Title: Bedtime Routine
Characters: Henry Foss/Unnamed Female, mention of Magnus
Fandom: Sanctuary
Summary: Henry just wants to share something with his unborn child.
Rating: PG
Warnings: Cuteness factor
Disclaimer: Nobody recognizable belongs to me (yeah I need to get back into the swing of wacky disclaimers…)
Author's Note: So I was watching CSI:NY last night and it was the one where Danny’s telling stories to Lindsey’s belly while she’s pregnant. My first finished story in this fandom. I purposely didn’t name the female of this pairing since I didn’t want to be crucified with my first story…yes I kinda know who it would be if I had established my characters in the fandom. I might come back later and change this a bit. And I’ve got another one here which is Losers fandom…any other suggestions for geek fandoms?
Henry gave a sigh of relief as his bedroom door shut quietly behind him. It had been a long day and he was looking forward to curling up in bed and sleeping for a few hours before the next catastrophe. He smiled slightly at the sight of his pregnant mate curled up on her side in his bed, the soft light of the bedside lamp just barely illuminating her form. As he moved farther into the room, she stirred, opening her eyes and peering up at him. “Hey,” she greeted him sleepily. “Fix the issue for Magnus?”
“Yeah for now,” he answered, leaning over to kiss her before beginning to strip out of his clothes. “You should be sleeping.”
“I was resting,” she reminded him. “We were waiting for you.”
He slipped into bed, hands automatically reaching for her belly and the mound that contained their unborn child. “We talked about this. You need to rest as much as possible in order to stay calm and keep the little one…there.” He looked down at her belly as he felt something move beneath his fingers. “Is that supposed to happen?”
She smiled in response, covering his hand with her own and pressing down slightly. “He’s been moving around all day. Must want to say hi to Daddy.”
Henry reached up, kissing her and then leaning down to kissed her belly gently. “She must have been waiting for her story.”
“Ya know,” she commented as he rolled over to rifle through the books and magazines on the nightstand, “Magnus said she can tell us the sex of the baby when she does an ultrasound next week so we can stop this silly argument.”
“I don’t want to know what we’re having,” he replied as he rolled back over, lifting his arm so she could settle against him. “I just think it’s better to be surprised.”
She smiled, snuggling against him and re-arranging their bodies until both of them were comfortable. “All right. So what story are we reading tonight?”
Henry opened the new issue Walter had sent him to preview a few days before. Finding the block where they had left off when they’d both drifted off to sleep, he began reading in a soft voice. Maybe comics weren’t the usual reading choice for an unborn baby, but their child would be raised among abnormals and have playmates that were normally the stuff of legends. This seemed perfectly sane to them both.
