The Death of Earth

From Earth Day Prompt

In celebration of Earth Day tomorrow, blow up the planet. Bring in a meteor, the fist of God, or an invasion of outer space LOL cats. However you do it, destroy the planet.

Have a happy Earth Day in reality!

“In the matter of Planet 53768, it has been determined that the natives are going to render themselves obsolete in a matter of decades rather than millennia. Therefore, they should be declared null,” the prosecutor declared.

“That seems a bit premature,” the defender spoke up. “They should be allowed a chance to redeem their planet.”

“They’ve had multiple chances, decades. And only succeeded in destroying it more and more!”

“Destroying the many because of the few is not the way to create good will!”

“What do you propose then?” the prosecutor demanded, finally turning to face his opponent. “Let them continue to pollute their planet?”

“You want to blow it up!” the defender all but yelped before visibly getting control of himself. “I propose that selected members of the people and enough creatures be transported to another planet. Perhaps Planet 67789. So that they can repopulate and create a new society.”

“And what’s to prevent them from doing the same thing to the new planet?”

The defender handed a pack of papers out to the court officer to be handed to the judge and the prosecutor. “Carefully vetted people to be transferred. Ones who’ve never overly polluted, who have skills that can be transferred to a new planet, and who can survive on a new world.”

The prosecutor opened his mouth to protest again, but the judge held up his hand. “I’ve had enough of your arguing.” He banged his gravel once. “Planet 53768 will be destroyed in two weeks. However many of your people and creatures you can move by that time will be relocated to Planet 67789 with the normal relocation packets. They will have fifteen of their years to prove that they will not destroy their new planet.” He pounded the gravel twice more to seal the command.
